In the heart of Wanne-Eickel, the Mini Golf Club hosted the city's championships on September 7, 2025. The event, open to mini golf enthusiasts from Herne and local sports club members, attracted a total of 42 participants across nine categories.

The Senior Women II category saw Elke Stürzebecher emerge victorious. Meanwhile, in another closely-contested category, Reinhard Mahn and Herbert Otto ended the tournament tied with 92 shots each. After a thrilling tiebreaker, it was Herbert Otto who claimed his second title in his 52-year mini golf career.

The Boys category was won by Jan Dorny, while the Girls category was claimed by Sonja Knoll. In the Women category, Lea Reitemeier took the title, and among the hobby players, Verena Dorny and Jan Kuhn triumphed in their respective categories.

The competition among the seniors and seniors II was particularly intense, with several tiebreakers necessary to determine the winners. In the younger seniors category, Ralf Sawartowski and Peter Wallbaum ended the tournament tied with 88 shots each. The tiebreaker saw Peter Wallbaum win the 2025 title in a dramatic fashion, with an ace.

A "fun tournament" for hobby players was also held as part of the city championships, offering a chance for players not affiliated with a mini golf club to participate and win a tournament ball as a prize. The best hobby player among the three participating students was Can-Josha Henke.

Notably, Ralf Sawartowski played the best round of the tournament with an impressive 25 shots. Tim Sawartowski, however, had the best tournament result with 85 shots over three rounds.

With the city championships concluded, the focus shifts to the DMV Pokal match against the mini golfers from Bad Bodendorf, scheduled for next Sunday.

Despite some categories having little competition, the overall atmosphere was one of excitement and camaraderie, making the Wanne-Eickel Mini Golf City Championships 2025 a memorable event for all involved.
